Let’s be honest: It can be really hard to find the motivation to get up and exercise after a long day at work, or even just a long day in general. It’s so easy to fall into that trap of thinking there’s no way you can possibly squeeze in another workout before you head home and collapse on your bed. But trust us, you can! That doesn’t mean you have to spend hours pummelling your body with high-intensity interval training or circuit training until you drip with sweat. All it means is mixing things up a little bit and doing what feels right for your body on a given day. The great news is that home workouts are actually the perfect solution if you’re looking for something that gives you just as much benefit but is much easier on your time and stress levels.
The key to finding your motivation is to approach it from whatever angle you feel is most important to you at that moment. If you’re grappling with feelings of guilt over not working out enough lately and a lack of confidence in your abilities to stick with a workout plan, a low-impact cardio workout is the perfect solution. You can do almost any form of cardio indoors, such as skipping, performing gliding disc exercises, or getting in some aerobic steps, while watching your favourite TV show or listening to music, which makes it easy to commit to without feeling too pressured. As well as being a fantastic stress-buster, cardio is great for burning calories and improving your mood, so you’ll feel very accomplished once you’ve finished.
Strength Training Workout
If you have the time and energy for a full workout and want to really challenge your body and muscles, a strength training workout is a great option. You have a lot of freedom to choose what movements you do and how many sets you do of each, so you can tailor it to your needs and fitness level. You can do this at home with simple equipment like dumbbells or resistance bands that will having you feel the burn in no time.
If you’re short on time but don’t want to completely skimp on exercise, a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout is a great solution. This type of training involves intense bursts of exercise with short breaks in between, so even though you’re doing less overall, you’re still giving your body a good workout. And best of all, you can do HIIT workouts almost anywhere. If you have a bit of space in your home, minimal gym equipment can go a long way, and get you in amazing shape in no time. We suggest adding the skill slide, and any form of medicine ball/wall ball into your workouts for their variety of uses in your workouts.
Yoga or Stretching Workout
If your main goal is to loosen up your muscles and feel more relaxed, a yoga or stretching workout is a great option. When you’re feeling stressed out or tense, it can be really helpful to take some time out for yourself, take a few deep breaths, and stretch or do a few simple yoga poses. While many people think yoga is only for people who practice it regularly, it’s actually great for anyone trying to find a little more balance in their lives, no matter how infrequently they do it. And there are tons of free or cheap apps that can guide you through a simple yoga or stretching routine at home, so there’s no need to go to a class. Next time you’re wanting to slow things down we suggest relaxing on a high quality yoga mat, such as the Recovery Yoga Mat.
